As part of his manifestos, Leboo was the one dropping me off after close of work everyday unless he was unavoidably absent. As we approached Ogudu express that night in a sun-kere, fa-kere typical Lagos traffic, a guy in a black hoodie suddenly appeared at his side of vehicle brandishing a gun and demanded for his phone. In this kind of situation, you don't "look at Uche's face" and he handed the phone over to him And then, my own phone was also requested for. I had two phones. A blackberry and a beautiful sleek red nokia.
The nokia was a birthday gift that had followed me from our sunshine state, relocated with me to Ibafo/Arepo, Ogun State and finally Ogba in Lagos State. It was my best friend so to speak.
And then (2x), I betrayed this friendship due to "wannabe-works-in-Lekki" influence. Who wouldn't want to "give me your bbmpin please". I handed my over the phone to Oga, while the BB was slid under my seat.
I promised myself that would be the last time my phone would be requested for and I kept to this.
While following up on an agreement recently with a company we wanted to signed on, I left my phone on a couch at the Mainoffice lounge and my brain clicked after 5minutes that I had misplaced my phone. I requested for the footage of visitors/staff that had gone through that path and I watched how my phone was being taken and kept away from wandering fingers.
It was a vendor who had come for payment. The footage was quite funny. He picked the phone, opened the pouch/casing and closed it. Returned the phone. Picked again. Returned it. He performed this act four times before keeping it finally inside his diary.
I called my lines severally and he refused to pick. A colleague called with office landline and he picked claiming that he actually took the phone to keep for the owner as he did not want it stolen.
"Brother?"
We have 3 receptions in the office. He actually met with someone. He knows some people in some department. Please do the maths of the stealing theory.
The phone was taken in the morning and returned in the afternoon because at this time, I had involved everyone "involveable" and some elements were saying "oh, he is not that kind of a person". A phone was taken from our Conservation office(near Chevron) all the way to Lekki just because brother is safeguarding my phone
Seriously it's definitely a two sided thing. To me, and I think I have a licence to think the way I want. The guy might have kept it for you and possibly from a professional thief(LCC STAFF), who would have stolen it because he's got access to the control room and swipe out the camera memory. Obviously, the guy knows there are cameras in LCC premises and even behind where he sat and took the phone.
