Reminiscing...Missing some days

I miss the days
When we would sit round a bowl of hot eba and okro very early in the morning
I miss how my brother would use his teeth to divide beef while swallowing half while we sat there looking at him with every ounce of  annoyance in our bones
Oh! I miss the days

I miss the days
When eating chicken was luxury and rice was for special events and "Iya Teju" was good at making those puffy "red-made" christmas dresses for us
Oh! I miss the days

I miss the days
When we had to go to the farm early in the morning and looked forward to eating roasted corn or yam at the farm
The insects spared us not tho
Oh! I miss the days

I miss the days
When we had to learn a new word and its meaning everyday
Woe betide you if you are unable to use the words in sentences
Oh! I miss the days

I miss the days
When you sleep off while studying at night and dad would hide the books. Be ready for some jumping up if you were unable to provide an explanation of how your books disappeared while reading
Oh! I miss the days

I miss the days
When i knew all lyrics by heart and Tevin Campbell was our sweetheart. Dancing was also a favourite but lifting a leg is an hearculian task now
Oh! I miss the days

I miss the days
When growing up was eagerly awaited and we all wanted to be lawyers, doctors, bankers and always looking forward to the end of the year party
Oh! I miss the days

Growing up was fun. Moments of bad and good. Make every moment count. I miss the days

Speaking in Tongues

Back in Uni, I had gone to see a friend, also my course-mate. Just when I was about to leave her house, some brethren sauntered in. Pastor MM(not real name) as she was fondly called, welcomed them and introduced me to them

Then one of the brethren came to me and we went... hello, how are, which denomination do you attend speech.

Out of no where, brother asked if I speak in tongue. I told him no as there was no point in lying about it and I never considered it to be a thing of shame.

"Really"? brother asked! "You will speak in tongues before you leave Pastor MM house." He asked that we pray and till I speak in tongue, I would not go anywhere.

The prayers started. While brother was claabashing, I was praying who knows, could be that my redemption time had come.

Stylishly, while still praying I noticed it would soon be dark and this brother had stated earlier I would not leave till I speak in tongues. I continued the prayer while thoughts of how to escape the moment without being offensive.

At some point, I squeezed my eyes very tight and I started "a bra boo baa" session with all seriousness.

A soft tap in my hand, I opened my eyes and feigning ignorance in a very innocent way, Brother asked if I knew what just happened and I responded NO. In what seemed like Brother had just witnessed his fist live miracle, his face lit up and he shouted..."you just spoke in tongue, you just spoke in tongue". I went "OMG" on him and that was how I was able to get home on time. Which also reminded me of a story my sister told me about someone of same denomination that told her that for her to speak in tongue, she should string the vowels and consonants together.

This post is not to cast any aspersion on any denomination. However, I believe the gift of the spirit comes not from enforcement but truly from God and given to each of us in a special way
